上野公園帝室博物館

The Imperial Household Museum, Ueno Park

Ueno Park, Tokyo · Before 1940 (Showa era)

Under a sky lined with white clouds, a long roof stretches straight across from side to side. The building that once served as the main hall of the Tokyo Imperial Household Museum is now listed as a cultural property on Cultural Heritage Online.

About this photo

Beneath a sky where clouds stretch across in a line, a building with a large black roof fills the frame from end to end. The roofline drops slightly toward the right, and across the front, a row of tall windows or columns runs to the left and right. To the left in front of the building is a tree or some shrubbery, and the foreground is dark ground.

Under the name "Former Tokyo Imperial Household Museum Main Building," it is now listed as a cultural property on Cultural Heritage Online, run by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs.

Near the middle of the roof's upper edge sits a single small, whitish bump. Along that whole stretch of black roof, it is the only thing that sticks up.
