諸国名所百景 下総舟橋大神宮
Funabashi Daijingu, Shimosa Province
Between the pillar and crossbeam of the torii, blue sea and a reddening sky peek through. At the foot of a huge pine on the left, you can make out a few people.
About this print
A large torii gate of plain, unpainted wood stands on the right, its top crossbeam running off past the right edge. On the left, a huge dark-green pine reaches almost to the top edge, with a green slope below it. The top edge is shaded in deep indigo, and at the upper right a tall red cartouche sits beside another with writing on it. A pale diagonal lattice pattern spreads across the lower right, and at the foot of the tree in the lower left are a few figures, one of them in a blue kimono.
Funabashi Daijingu, whose name is written with a different character for "funa" in the print's title, is officially called Ohi Shrine. It is an old shrine, listed by name in the shrine register of the Heian-period Engishiki.
