京都祇園 鶴谷政治

Tsuruya (or Tsurutani) Masaji (or Seiji), Gion

Gion, Kyoto · Before 1903 (Meiji era)

Her pale kimono contrasts sharply with the large dark shape just to its right. She keeps her body turned to the side, and only her face looks our way.

About this photo

Her hair swept up, she keeps her body turned to the side and turns only her face back toward us. Her kimono is a light color, and on the right of the picture is a large dark shape. The name under the photo reads "Kyoto Gion, Tsuruya Masaji." The reading of 鶴谷政治 is uncertain: the family name may be Tsuruya or Tsurutani, and the given name Masaji or Seiji.

Like the one just before it, this photo carries the name "Kyoto Gion," and both are in the middle of the album. Going further back, you find photos bearing Osaka place names: "Osaka Shinmachi" and "Osaka Nanchi."
