鹽原稚子ヶ淵
Chigogafuchi, Shiobara
Winding thin and white between dark stands of trees, a stream leads back into the depths of a valley at Shiobara, in Tochigi.
About this photo
The slope on the left sinks into an even deeper black than the one on the right. Only up high, in the gap between the two slopes, does a patch of bright sky show.
The Shiobara gorge is a scenic area where the Hoki River cut a deep V-shaped valley. In what is now Nasushiobara City, within Nikko National Park, there is a spot of the same name.
Pale rocks glint here and there in the stream and along its banks. Connecting those white dots, you can trace how the water bends as it runs back along the dark valley floor.
