江戸名所見立十二ヶ月の内.1
Famous Places of Edo Paired with the Twelve Months (1)
Her pale hands folded in front of her chest, a woman fills the whole foreground. Behind her, a gate with red pillars and a tiled roof appears small.
About this print
The woman, her black hair done up in a large style, is shown from the chest up. Across her hair, a yellow and vermilion band runs from the left edge to the right. Her kimono has a fine red and brown pattern, with a light blue collar. To the left of the building in the back is a dark green stand of trees, and on either side of the gate are trees in white bloom and a white fence.
Famous Places of Edo Paired with the Twelve Months is a print series by Kuniyoshi that matches each of the twelve months with a famous place in Edo and shows a figure on a large scale. Among the prints from the same series held by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, is one that pairs the fifth month with Takanawa.
