江戸名所見立十二ヶ月の内.2

Famous Places of Edo Paired with the Twelve Months (2)

Tokyo · 1852 (Edo period)

A man with a stern face takes up half the picture, with a pale sky and a blue waterside spreading out behind him. His black jacket stands out sharply against the bright scenery.

About this print

Brows knitted and mouth turned down at the corners, the man turns his face slightly to one side. The top of his head is shaved and his hair tied in a topknot, and he wears a black jacket with a light blue collar. The kimono beneath has a red, blue and white floral pattern, and in front of his chest a yellow shape like a fan opens wide. On the shore behind him to the left, white and pale pink dots cluster together.

This series was published in 1852 by Yawataya Sakujiro. On each sheet, Kuniyoshi paired one of the twelve months with a famous place in Edo.
